Ways to Serve/Outreach

Many of our sisters at Women in the Word are serving Christ by serving others.  Below is an on going list of ways you can support your sisters or opportunities to serve yourself.  As always, your prayer support for our sisters is appreciated!

In todays lesson, April 18, 2018
Paul thanked the Philippians for their gifts.

"Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles...
They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice,
pleasing to God.
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of
His glory in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:14, 18-19

Mission Trip:  July 8-15, 2017

Hello my sisters.
I would like to take this opportunity to share with you some information about an upcoming mission trip that my family and I will be taking this summer. My husband and I have been to Nicaragua four separate times on mission trips and this summer we are taking our daughter Jacqueline who is 4 years old with us for the first time as well. My husband and I will also be leading this trip this year for the first time too, which is very exciting, but also a big responsibility.
We are proudly partnering with Chosen Children’s Ministries (https://www.ccm.life/) for this venture as we have before. CCM is a wonderful organization filled with spirit filled people whom we admire greatly. They only have a few weeks off per year and work tirelessly from early morning hours to late evenings daily for our team. While we are there, we will be rebuilding a pastor’s house, which is falling apart at its foundation (Picture below), evangelizing throughout the Paradise community in Nicaragua, as well as doing VBS daily for the children.
We will be going for 1 week, from July 8-15th this summer. There are many ways you can partner with us in this journey, if you feel so led. First and foremost we need prayer. Prayer for planning leading up to the trip, passports that need to be applied for, as well as money that needs to be raised. We are a team of 12 and this means lots of coordination, planning, and money to be raised. Our church Clearwater Community Church is having a garage sale on April 7th and 8th from 7 AM to 1 PM and all proceeds will benefit our summer mission trips, so stop on by. You can also drop off your treasures for our garage sale beginning April 2nd in the lobby of our student center. We are also collecting travel size toiletries to hand out in Nicaragua examples would be toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, bandaids etc. Lastly financial support is another way you can help, if you feel so led. I will be sharing some information with our sisters at bible study shortly as well and I am always available to answer any questions you may have. Thanks for listening.

With Love,

Pamela Tirado

Walkathon:  April 8, 2017

Hello Sisters,

You’ve prayed for and supported me and Lara as we help the women of Hope House and I thank you.  We are holding a Walkathon Fundraiser on April 8th and would love for you to join us.  Flyer attached.  If you can’t join us but want to donate, you can go to our website or simply write a check to First Touch Mission and mail it to P.O. Box 303 Safety Harbor, FL  34695.  If you’re just hearing about First Touch Mission, Let me tell you a little about us.
First Touch Mission (FTM) provides support for women transitioning from prison into the Tampa Bay Communities.  The program is designed to help participants break the cycle of returning to prison or returning to the patterns of their “old life.” FTM offers housing, financial aid, support and mentoring to the women accepted into the program.  We are a faith-based, non- profit run by volunteers only.
In an article written by Marsha Weissman in 2000, the statistics of the effects of an incarcerated parent, especially the mother, upon her children is profound.  These children have been associated with poor academic achievement, involvement in delinquency and gang-related activities, violence and eventually adult criminal behavior.  One study estimated that children with imprisoned parents are almost six times more likely than their counterparts to become criminally involved and incarcerated at some point in their future.  Those statistics have not changed much over the years and it is the main reason FTM was created.  At FTM, we strive to become change agents, not just for the women, but for their children as well.  In doing so, we have found that not only has the world of the women been changed, but the world of their children, grandchildren, mothers and siblings.  Generational change has the trickle-down effect, thus halting the cyclic behaviors of families lost in the world of substance abuse, criminal behavior, mental illness and domestic violence.  Prison destroys families.  Our prayer is that through the restoration of one woman at a time, generational healing will occur.
Since opening the doors of Hope House, our residence home, in 2008, we have admitted 20 women into the program and into our house.  Most of these women are now employed and living as healthy, productive contributors to society.  Of those who completed the course and graduated the program, only one has returned to prison.  While we have not yet reached our goal of a 100% success rate, we are proud to say we have far exceed the national average, where only 30% of offenders adopt a lifestyle that doesn’t involve returning to prison.
